Cyberpunk 2077 finally had a very eventful launch
Despite the debacle Cyberpunk 2077 is selling like hotcakes, for the moment
Expected to be a revolution in video games, Cyberpunk 2077 finally had a very eventful launch. Despite the critics, CD Project announces 13 million sales in only 10 days!
The CD Projekt teams certainly did not expect such a turbulent end of the year 2020. Between delays, bugs and criticisms of the console versions, the game Cyberpunk 2077 didn't get the expected reception. And yet...
In a press release to its investors, CD Projekt has unveiled the sales figures for the most anticipated game of the year. In all, the Polish publisher sold 13 million copies (physical and digital) of Cyberpunk 2077 in just 10 days. 8 million copies had already been pre-ordered for several weeks or even months for some players, 60% of which were in the PC version.
These figures place Cyberpunk 2077 at the same rank as GTA V, some Call of Duty or more recently Red Dead Redemption 2. Commercial successes that illustrate the power of marketing in the world of video games. Gamers are now ready to get their hands on the wallet on the basis of great promises. Until now...
CD Projekt wants to reassure investors
CD Projekt points out that these figures take into account refunds made to resellers and on the PlayStation and Xbox console blinds. However, it does not indicate the number of copies of the game returned. It is also unclear whether all refund requests made before December 20 have been taken into account.
It should also be noted that many copies were ordered to be placed at the foot of the tree. It is therefore very likely that some players will request a refund once their gifts have been unwrapped.
"The management of CD Project has decided to reveal these figures in view of their potential impact on investors' decisions," reads the publisher's press release. Clearly, the mayonnaise is not taking. CD Projekt's share price was down 3% at the opening on Wednesday. Since the launch of Cyberpunk 2017, the publisher's share price has fallen by 40%!
Cyberpunk 2077: disillusionment
The problem with promises is that they have to be kept. In the case of CD Projekt, "the account is not there Kevin". No moldings on the ceiling, no glitter in life, the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 quickly turned into a disaster.
Announced as a small revolution in the world of video games, Cyberpunk 2077 is finally an oven. One could have guessed it even before its commercialization. After several delays, the publisher finally proposed to the specialized press to test the game... only in PC version. The editorial staff of Presse-citron had then taken the decision to wait for the commercial version for consoles of living room before publishing its test.
Result: the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 do not meet the standards of 2020. Bugs, crashes, questionable graphic quality, critics are raining on the CD game Projekt.
The dissatisfaction of console players is such that the publisher has approached Sony and Microsoft to refund disappointed customers. The Japanese even took the decision to remove the game from the Playstation Store. A first in the history of the console.
CD Projekt announced several updates to correct the problems as well as the deployment of a "next-gen" patch for PS5 and Xbox Series owners (without giving dates). The publisher promises an experience comparable to the PC version (for the move welcomed by all players). But the problem with the promises...
